September 2021 update

October 3, 2021 by Stephen Nichols

The month of September saw works really push on at Peacock Street in Norwich. The new kitchen extension, old kitchen, new cloakroom and lounge/diner walls have been replastered and (once dry) redecorated.

An opening has been formed at the top of the stairs on the landing, to admit more daylight; the new extension skypod (roof light), back door and window have been fitted.

Wall plates, joists and flooring fitted to form new kitchen floor. The existing lounge & dining room have had their floor coverings removed and all the ground level floors have been over-plyed ready for tiling next month.

The end of the month has seen the new kitchen arrive and is the process of being fitted.

August 2021 update

September 7, 2021 by Stephen Nichols

The whole month of August was spent working on the kitchen extension and other works at Peacock Street, Norwich.

The former lounge window opening was widened and lintels fitted.

The existing sink unit was removed and 1st fix plumbing installed ready form the new kitchen layout.

1st fix electrics have been fitted as well as some drain alterations.

A new cloakroom has been formed in timber studwork. Plasterboard had been fitted to all ceilings, walls, boxing and insulated board to the extension walls as required, and is now ready for plastering.

ready for plastering

Covid and supply chain issues mean I am still awaiting the skypod, back door, and window, but all other work is pushing on well.

Other works include kitchen and utility designs agreed and ordered for works to start in October, plus estimates for a 1 or 2 storey extension in Costessey.

July 2021 update

August 3, 2021 by Stephen Nichols

This month started with the fitting of 4 internal doors at a property in Dilham, re-hanging an existing wet room door (to open out rather than in) at a home in Jenny Road, Spixworth, along with measuring up and estimates for jobs in Witton and Aylsham.

I also fitted additional wall units to the utility room and kitchen of a brand new property in Blofield.

Having completed the above, the concrete order was finally ready for the new reinforced concrete slab for the extension at Peacock Street, Norwich.

Having concreted late on Thursday, works started in full on the following Monday, and soon the extension was taking shape.

Roof joists, trimmers, insulation, roof deck, fascia, gutters and finally an EPDM covering with lead flashing completed the warm roof construction. The existing UPVC doors and windows have been removed, along with the brickwork below them, to give a full open plan feel to the newly extended kitchen. Now awaiting new window, door, and lantern for new ceiling.

June 2021 update

July 5, 2021 by Stephen Nichols

Work continued at Peacock Street in Norwich, existing extension gutters and main house drains have all been altered. The existing kitchen ceiling has been removed, gas pipe to boiler repositioned, and new flue fitted. A new design for a concrete raft foundation for the new extension to sit on has been agreed and approved by Buildings Control. The floor slab levels have been dropped to suit new design and all the reinforcing steelwork is now in place ready for concreting early next month.

Meanwhile in North Walsham 5 internal doors have been fitted complete at a home on Acorn Road, and 2 new built-in wardrobes have been fitted to a home right across the road from me on Bacton Road:-

I continue to receive positive ongoing enquiries as a result of both this website and my Facebook page, and I have issued a number of estimates as a result.

May 2021 update

June 3, 2021 by Stephen Nichols

Work this month included:-

Removing an existing garage door (up & over) and frame, bricking up the opening and fitting a double glazed window to match the windows in the house. This created a home gym for my client at Alder Close, North Walsham.

Work began…
…and finished

I have also cross battened, plasterboarded and re-plastered a bedroom ceiling for a repeat client in Lyng.

Work has also finally started on a single storey kitchen extension at Peacock Street in Norwich. The existing courtyard and external boundary wall have been removed and footings dug out. I am now awaiting an architect/structural engineer’s re-design of the foundations before work can continue.

A number of materials are on order for clients at Acorn Road (doors) and Bacton Road (wardrobes), both here in North Walsham.

The supply of materials continues to be an issue, delays arising post-Covid. Material prices have also risen considerably; by at least 20% since the beginning of January.

I have had a number of new enquiries and am currently pricing works in Honing and also for 2 potential clients in Mulbarton.
